Tomb Law Office

Client: Klein, Tomb & Eberly, LLP

Troy, Ohio

Project Responsibilities: Concept Design, Cost Estimating, Construction Documents

The law firm Klein, Tomb & Eberly LLP sought to open an office in a set of interconnected historic structures in downtown Troy, Ohio, that had fallen into disrepair. The renovation included a reception area, conference room, law library, break room, restrooms and private offices.

A key element of the plan was to honor the historical integrity of the buildings, the oldest of which was the original Miami County, Ohio, sheriff’s office and jail. All of windows, doors and hardware were replaced with historically appropriate materials. New trim and casings were installed duplicating the original. The exterior brick was repaired and tuck pointed in accordance with National Park Service standards for historic restoration. New windows and shutters replicated the original fenestration portrayed in historic photographs.

The buildings required new electrical and mechanical systems. The existing structure was stabilized and reinforced. The inside surface of the exterior walls were framed out to run electric power and communication lines and to provide insulation.
